Vehicle Registration Plates
One function of registration plates in China (as in many countries) is to inform you which region that particular vehicle is from. For example, a car from Beijing will have the initial character 京 jīng : gin(1) on its registration plate, denoting 'capital'.
The cars from Guangdong Province use the initial character 粤 Yuè : yad(6). This is followed by a letter to represent the municipality, e.g. 'A' for Guangzhou, 'B' for Shenzhen and 'M' for Meizhou. Therefore a car that is 'native' to Moiyan (or other counties in Meizhou) will be recognisable by its registration plate, e.g. 粤M 12345.
